A Tuscany Root

Ours is an all-Tuscan story: the winery dates back to 1903, the year in which it was establishes in the countryside of Quarrata, a lovely town in the province of Pistoia located among villages and hills full of charm. The structure is truly unique, out of the ordinary: it was in fact built to be destined from the beginning to viticulture, unlike the other wineries that had an original living purposes or directed to other activities.
This is not its only peculiarity: it is in fact characterized by an architecture totally in liberty style and for this reason it represents a unique case in Europe. All these features have contributed to increase its fame, and for decades it has been so strongly rooted in the imagination of the local population that it has been renamed "il cantinone”  (that means “the big cellar”).
A little note of color: for a certain period the winery was also the seat of a school of filet embroidery!

Where

We are located in the countryside of Quarrata, a small town in the province of Pistoia. The landscape of this noble area is typical of the Tuscan countryside that the world adores and dreams of visiting: gentle hills of green and gold colors adorned with cypress trees, long expanses of vineyards, ancient and renowned villas of great historical and artistic value -many of which are from the Medici era- and the Leonardo da Vinci’s genius that hovers everywhere.
The connection between Quarrata and the city of Pistoia is very strong and marked by a very close territorial proximity (15 minutes by car) which has always favored cultural and economic exchanges. Pistoia was founded in Roman times: protagonist in every century of regional and national events, it boasts numerous places of interest for lovers of art, culture and food and wine, including the Cathedral of San Zeno (with the famous San Jacopo’s silver altar inside: the city is, among other things, a stage of the Camino de Santiago) and the Ospedale del Ceppo.

Guido & Gherardo Betti

The winery was established in 1903 by Bartolomeo Baldi, great-uncle of the current owners, brothers Guido and Gherardo Betti: in fact Betti family is originally from Florence and in the past the winery was the so called country home. In 2003 Guido and Gherardo made a very important decision which would have defined their lives: they decided to totally dedicate themselves to viticulture and therefore they transformed what had always been the second activity of the family in a modern winery. Guido, born in 1978, supervises the Italian and Export sales whereas Gherardo, born in 1983, manages the enological and agronomical sector: over time they made the winery not only a destination for visitors interested in having a wine experience but also for those interested in the artistic beauties of the territory and therefore willing to admire the winery building as well as the works of art exhibited in the park.
